Propaganda wars...
Political "communication" has taken many different ways all along history. The one shown in this poster looks a bit old. But we all know that propaganda is still active today. It takes more perverse and hidden ways, but the goals remain the same.
N. Sarkozy is well known for his proximity with several french media (Le Point [more than 10 covers with Sarkozy's portrait in the 20 months preceding the elections] , Le Figaro, TF1, La Tribune...) and media owners (Martin Bouygues, Bernard Arnault, Arnaud Lagardère, Serge Dassault...). He managed to fire Alain Genestar (editorial chief at Paris Match) for an "offensive" photo, to censor an article in the Journal Du Dimanche about his wife's abstention, he promised to fire the public TV direction staff as soon as he would be elected. And more and even more..
The message brought by this poster is - as you say - quite exagerated. It's also non-effective and un-productive. But the dangers that the french president brings are really effective.
It's not about which political side you belong to. It's about the vigilance citizens should have on the point of media's freedom.

I couldn't agree more with you, just think that calling - even not directly - someone a facist is first of all out of place, and second: not efficient. These symbols have been used sooo many times, that they just lost their impact.
And yes, babelblogs are great
